Set for Success
Wimbledon Foundation's Set for Success programme, in partnership with Barclays, delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, provides young people from underserved communities across the UK with the opportunity to develop valuable life and leadership skills, through mentoring sessions with inspirational athletes.
The initiative aims to improve young people’s employability skills and their positive social engagement, developing their confidence, aspirations, resilience and self-esteem. Through Barclays’ contribution and work with the Wimbledon Foundation the programme will expand from 15 schools in four regions to a 150 schools in 30 regions within just four years, giving opportunities to up to 3,900 young people across the UK.
Sustainable Growth
Unreasonable Impact, created with Barclays, is a global movement dedicated to scaling up growth-stage entrepreneurs operating at the nexus of advanced technology, global impact, and profit. We’re collaborating with two partners 80 Acres and CLUBZERØ to bring innovative technology to The Championships.
CLUBZERØ:
Working with reusable packaging, CLUBZERO, all our customer strawberry & cream ice cream (located in The Queue Village) will be served in reusable CLUBZERØ pots, enabling a circular-economy service onsite at Wimbledon.
I’m thrilled to be working with Barclays to help change the lives of young people who typically wouldn’t have the opportunity to experience the game of tennis.
Here for the players
The extraordinary story of our Barclays tennis ambassador, Frances Tiafoe, showcases the importance of increasing the accessibility of sport. Frances is the son of Sierra Leonean immigrants in Hyattsville, Maryland, and learnt to play tennis at the JTCC in suburban Washington, D.C. Through inspiring partnerships and support, Frances has since become a Grand Slam semi-finalist and Top 20 player. He moved to the top 10 in June 2023, his highest ranking to date.
Our history with Wimbledon
The first Barclays bank opened over 330 years ago and, as the world’s oldest tennis tournament, Wimbledon was first staged in 1877. The beginnings of this banking partnership date back to the 1960s, when Barclays’ first sub-branch in the area was built directly below the stands of Wimbledon’s Centre Court, a unique venue which opened its doors only for the fortnight of The Championships.
Turning possibility into reality
Behind every great success story, there’s a world of support and partners that helped along the way. But, turning possibility into tangible results is far from easy. It takes a partner willing to understand your goals on a deeper level. At Barclays Corporate and Investment Bank, we leverage the power of our global teams to help your vision become reality.
