Customer account ledger

The Gosling ledgers are unique within the archives of Barclays. They form the most complete set of customer ledgers running unbroken from 1717 to 1896. There are 654 ledgers, each containing an average of 500 pages. The accounts held within the ledgers form a roll call of notable names, such as Alexander Pope, Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire, Samuel Richardson, and Benjamin Franklin.
