James Barclays signature
The bank which would go on to become Barclays had been founded by John Freame and Thomas Gould in 1690. In 1736, Freame's son-in-law, James Barclay joined the partnership. This is his signature on the firm's annual balance, the first instance of the Barclay name in the archives.
