PINsentry
The award-winning handheld PINsentry device is a classic example of pioneering technology devised for Barclays. Piloted in 2007, some 500,000 of these machines were sent to online customers as an anti-fraud measure. Using a chip and pin reader and random number generator, it does away with the need for conventional passwords. The first half of 2008 saw online fraud reduced by over 96% attributable to PINsentry. Group Archives aims to preserve examples of technological innovation and the history surrounding them.
