Portrait of David Barclay, c1800

Framed print of portrait of David Barclay who died 28 May 1809, aged 81. The second son of David Barclay and Priscilla, daughter of John Freame, he was a successful merchant and became a partner in the Bank in 1776. A great benefactor and philanthropist, he was one of the trustees of the Quaker school at Ackworth, and a keen supporter of the emancipation campaigner, William Wilberforce.
