Lacy, Hartland and Co, West Smithfield

This was a private bank which specialised in serving the meat trade and was based at Smithfield Market. In 1880 H W Woodbridge who was a partner in the Uxbridge Bank became a partner. The Brentford and Southall branches were subsequently transferred to the Uxbridge Bank but the bulk of the business was acquired by the London and Midland Bank (now HSBC). Accordingly, this is not a direct ancestor of Barclays.

Material available at Group Archives: photographs of the Lacy partners; examples of bills of exchange
