Penzance Union Bank

Ricketts, Enthoven and Co had offices at Penzance, Truro, Falmouth and St Columb. The official history of Barclays (1926) says they were London bankers but cites no evidence for this. Ricketts bought the branches of the Western District Banking Company (established 1836) when it failed in 1844. In 1847, they too found themselves in difficulties and sold their Penzance branch to Bolithos, and their Truro branch to the Devon and Cornwall Banking Company (later acquired by Lloyds).
