1953

In 1953, a new sub-branch (to Kingston, Jamaica) of Barclays Bank (Dominion, Colonial and Overseas) opened at Georgetown in the Cayman Islands, becoming a full branch in 1957. In 1964, a sub-branch opened at Cayman Brac, and in 1966, agencies opened at Spot Bay and Bodden Town. Following this, in 1967, the Cayman International Trust Company was established, with DCO subscribing 26% of its capital. In 2001, the First Caribbean International Bank was formed, following an amalgamation of Barclays Bank PLC and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
