Entered market

1923

Barclays Bank Limited first established a branch in Guernsey in 1923. During World War Two, when the island was under occupation, the bullion and ledgers from the Guernsey branch were evacuated to London for safekeeping. From the 1970s, Barclays pioneered the provision of local mortgages through its finance company as no building societies existed in Guernsey, a forerunner of the bank's UK mortgage service. Also in 1970, a subsidiary company, Barclaytrust Channel Islands was established. 1984 saw major investment when the Corporate Management Suite and International Division opened. In 2007, Barclays Wealth launched the new Liquidity Management and Investment Services as an extension of the services already offered by Intermediaries and Corporates in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. All information is correct as of August 2015.
