First links were developed in Indonesia through PT Finconesia, an Indonesian company formed by Barclays Bank International in association with six other banks in 1974. PT Finconesia became a fully licensed bank in 1993, and Barclays disposed of its holding in 1997. A representative's office was opened at Jakarta in 1974, closed in 1984, and re-opened in 2001. In 2004, PT Barclays Capital Securities Indonesia was registered. This was followed in 2008 by the acquisition of PT Bank Akita, a private bank established in 1990, which was then renamed Barclays Bank of Indonesia. In 2006, a co-branded Manchester United credit card was launched in partnership with the Bank of Danamon. All information is correct as of August 2015.
