1973

In 1973, an offshore branch was established by Barclays Bank International, the first branch of a British clearing house to open in Singapore. In 1988 Barclays de Zoete Wedd opened a representative's office, and the next year, became a member of the Singapore Stock Exchange, after purchasing a 49% share in the Pacific Union Co. Following this, in 1997, Barclays Private Bank was incorporated as a local company. By 2006, Barclays employed over 1000 people within Singapore, and a new office was opened by Barclays Wealth at One Raffles Quay. In 2013, 40 year anniversary celebrations were held. In 2016 Barclays announced the sale of its Wealth and Investment Management businesses in Singapore and Hong Kong to the Bank of Singapore, subsidiary of the Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation.
