In 1987, a group representative's office was opened in Taipei, and was succeeded by a full branch in 1990, which offered corporate and institutional services. This branch was closed in 1995. Barclays Capital then opened a full branch in 2005, which offers financing and risk management to the island's government, corporate and financial institutions.
