Starting your technology career at Barclays
Technology moves fast: today's ideas and innovations create tomorrow's banking practice. Hiring apprentices and graduates is an important way of keeping our minds open and challenging ourselves.
Technology career overview
Graduates and apprentices are our innovators in waiting. We hire technology apprentices into permanent roles when they're 16 years old, but we also let them continue studying at college or university. Technology graduates join us when they've successfully studied a STEM subject.

Our technology graduate and apprentice programmes
Begin your journey into tech
As an undergraduate or graduate, you'll take the first step into a hugely exciting and ever-changing world, where we're redefining the future of FinTech.
Whether you choose a Technology Analyst or Developer pathway, your career at Barclays will begin in a highly collaborative technical environment. You’ll join the team behind some of the industry’s biggest innovations – from Pingit and bPay by Barclaycard to talking ATMs – and see your bold ideas transformed into practical, real-life solutions.
Full-time Analysts can join us in both technical and non-technical roles, and we offer two distinct pathways:
Developer – come and be the brains behind the design, installation, testing and maintenance of existing and new systems. This is more than just playing around with code; you will be playing a critical role in designing innovative solutions to help us deliver enhanced products and services for our colleagues, clients and customers around the world.
Technology Analyst – don’t want to write the code, but still want to be in the world of Technology? If you have a passion to shape tomorrow’s future through technology, come and play a critical role in helping implement cutting edge technology into our transformational business.
Technology apprentice programme
Why build a career in Technology in our global business? Because this is where some of the industry’s biggest innovations were born – and you could create the next.
Apprentices are some of the brightest minds in our impressively talented team. You’ll be working alongside industry experts who are behind major leaps in FinTech – brilliant minds who are always ready to support you and share their extensive knowledge.
Of course, you’ll also be following a learning programme that’s as trail-blazing as our technology. There’ll be on-the-job training where you’ll learn through valuable hands-on experience. And you’ll have the chance to gain a recognised Apprenticeship Qualification – fully-funded by us – anything up to and including a BSc in Technology. That means you could earn a degree and also earn a salary. Sounds challenging? Don’t forget you’ve got wide-ranging support from a line manager, career coach and a technical buddy, as well as a network of peers. Wherever you’re based, you’ll find the spirit of teamwork and a highly collaborative community, one that’s fizzing with new ideas and full of disruptive thinking.
To get a sense of what it’s like to work here, experience it for yourself. With our Spring and Summer internships, you'll get a taste of how we are redefining the future of FinTech and developing game-changing technology. You may also take a significant step towards securing a full time opportunity with us.
This week-long programme is about learning about life in a technology organisation. You'll find out what it's like to work at Barclays and what our technology colleagues do. The programme is open to all students aged 14-17 years old. This isn't just a work shadowing placement: you'll get involved and gain real job experience.
We look for enthusiasm and a genuine interest in exploring the idea of a career in IT. A passion for technology is a must! This programme currently operates in Knutsford, London, Northampton and Vilnius.
