Barclays voted “one of best places to work in UK”

Barclays is among the best places to work in the UK, according to a national business award aimed at recognising the contribution of British-owned companies.

The bank came second in the ‘large firms’ category of The Sun newspaper’s ‘Best of British’ awards, which celebrates firms that are “creating jobs, building local communities and keeping the UK economy growing”.

Employees across the UK were asked to vote for their own companies, ranking them on a number of measures including career progression, pay, work-life balance, community support and working environment.

Barclays was the highest-placed major bank in the overall rankings, and The Sun cited the Bolder apprenticeship scheme, which has no upper age limit, as one example of the bank’s inclusive approach.

We want Barclays to be a place that gives colleagues the best possible environment to do a great job for our customers, to grow and develop as professionals, and to have a successful and rewarding career.

CEO of Barclays UK

Ashok Vaswani, CEO of Barclays UK, said: “I’m really thrilled that colleagues have voted Barclays a great place to work. Fostering a supportive and inclusive culture and creating opportunities for everyone to play their part is something that we always have to focus on, so we won’t be resting on our laurels.

“We want Barclays to be a place that gives colleagues the best possible environment to do a great job for our customers, to grow and develop as professionals, and to have a successful and rewarding career.”

Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State for Business, added: “Big name British firms are taking on the world, employing millions of people and driving growth. At a time of great change, we can be inspired by the fact more jobs have been created in Britain over the last decade than in the rest of Europe put together.”
