Barclays partners with Cyber Security Challenge UK to attract cyber talent

  • Barclays is the first bank to host the 2018 Cyber Security Challenge UK Masterclass final

Barclays has today announced that it is partnering with the Government-backed security initiative Cyber Security Challenge UK to host the Cyber Security Challenge UK Masterclass Final on 24-26 November in London.

The Masterclass is the culmination of nationwide face-to-face competitions that are designed to identify talented individuals who might be suited to a career in cyber security.  Candidates will go through a series of tests simulating real-life cyber security scenarios and the challenges will evaluate their technical, business and soft skills which reflect the skillsets required for a career in the industry.

Commenting on the partnership, Tim McNulty, Barclays Group Chief Security Officer, said:

“The cyber landscape is constantly evolving, as can be seen with the growth of AI and machine learning.  Traditional methods of cyber security defence need to develop too as cyber adversaries are deploying this technology and accelerating the scale, speed and complexity of their attacks.

“Finding and recruiting the cyber security experts to understand and counter this threat is never more important. Our partnership with the Cyber Security Challenge UK is just one of the ways in which we show our commitment to investing in cyber security.  Through this competition, Barclays is helping to provide a platform for the next generation of cyber enthusiasts to demonstrate their skills to serve a societal need, and to develop promising careers under the stewardship of Barclays.”

There is still time to secure a place at the live final. The competition is open to UK residents of all ages that are not currently working in cyber security and required no formal qualifications to take part. To secure an invitation, entrants must complete online qualifying games and progress to one of two challenging face-to-face cyber security games. These F2Fs will pit their coding and problem-solving skills against the best talent in the country, with the ultimate superstars being invited to November’s Final.

Those interested in taking part in the Cyber Security Challenge UK competitions should register via the CSCUK website: https://www.cybersecuritychallenge.org.uk/qualifiers are open until Friday 3rd August.
