Barclays appoints Foruhar Madjlessi as Co-Head of Equity Capital Markets for EMEA

11 May 2023

Barclays Investment Bank today announces the appointment of Foruhar Madjlessi as Co-Head of Equity Capital Markets for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), to work alongside Lawrence Jamieson.

Mr Madjlessi joins Barclays from Instone Real Estate Group, where he was Chief Financial Officer for the past five years.  Prior to Instone, he spent 12 years at Deutsche Bank where he was Head of ECM for Germany, Switzerland and Austria.  He started his banking career at UBS and Merrill Lynch where he held various positions in corporate finance and ECM, based in Frankfurt, London and New York.

He joins Barclays as its EMEA ECM business is enjoying excellent momentum, with roles on multiple landmark transactions in 2023 across a broad spectrum of the market, including the largest accelerated book build in EMEA since January 2015 for FEMSA and, most recently, as Global Coordinator on the IPO for Lottomatica, the largest IPO on the region in the year-to-date.

Tom Swerling, Global Head of Equity Capital Markets, commented: “Foruhar’s extensive experience will help to sustain our momentum and drive market share gains. Partnering with Lawrence as EMEA Co-Head, as well as Omar Alghanim, Head of EMEA Equity-linked & Financing Solutions, his appointment underscores our commitment to deliver the full breadth of Barclays’ equity capability to our Banking clients in EMEA.”

Tim Main, Head of Investment Banking, EMEA, commented: “This hire demonstrates our continued investment to further strengthen our equity capital markets capabilities for the benefit of our clients.
