Barclays extends partnership with British Gas to offer half price home energy efficiency checks
- Barclays UK residential mortgage customers can now get a British Gas Home Health Check for the discounted price of £50 (standard price: £99). Customers who get a British Gas Home Health Check also receive an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), at no extra cost (standard price £20)
- Barclays research found that one-in-three (35 per cent) homeowners say they are dissuaded from making energy efficiency improvements to their home because they don’t understand which of the potential upgrades are right for their property. A Home Health Check can help solve this.
Barclays has today announced it has extended its partnership with British Gas1, which helps customers explore ways they could make their homes more energy efficient. The partnership now includes an offer for Barclays UK residential mortgage customers to get a British Gas Home Health Check, which usually costs £99, for the discounted price of £50.
New research from Barclays2 reveals that while 70 per cent of homeowners say they would like their home to be more energy efficient, 35 per cent say they are put off making changes because they don’t understand which of the various options are right for their property. As a result, nearly half (45 per cent) say they would benefit from personalised recommendations for ways to make their home more energy efficient.
The Home Health Check provides an in-home survey, during which an accredited domestic energy assessor analyses how energy is used in the customer’s home. The assessor then provides personalised guidance on ways the customer could lower their energy bills, reduce their energy consumption and make their homes more efficient. This includes recommendations to make existing systems more efficient at low or no cost where possible, as well as recommending new solutions.
As an exclusive additional benefit, Barclays UK residential mortgage customers who get a British Gas Home Health Check also get an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) – to benchmark their home’s energy efficiency on a scale from A to G – at no extra cost. This could also benefit the 31 per cent of homeowners who say their home doesn’t have an up-to-date EPC according to Barclays research.
Today’s announcement is part of Barclays’ Greener Homes Strategy, and builds on the existing relationship between Barclays and British Gas. Nick Stace, Head of Sustainable Finance at Barclays UK, comments: “Aside from the upfront cost, one of the major barriers our customers face when trying to make their home more energy efficient is confusion about which of the various upgrades are right for their property. Through our ongoing partnership with British Gas, we want to help overcome this barrier by providing customers with personalised recommendations for saving money and potentially reducing their energy consumption.”
“We also want to help incentivise those changes, through schemes such as the Barclays Greener Home Reward, which gives a cash reward of up to £2,000 to UK residential mortgage customers who install a qualifying home energy efficiency improvement.”
Dan Rosenfield, Managing Director of Centrica New Business & Net Zero, added: “There is no one size fits all approach to making improvements on your home, which is why personalised guidance is key. Through our partnership with Barclays, we are pleased to help more homeowners decide what solution works for them to help them lower their carbon emissions and save on their energy bills.”
