Barclays today announced that Pier Luigi Colizzi, Chairman of EMEA M&A, has been appointed as a Global Chairman of Investment Banking and joins the Global Chairman Group (GCG).
Established in 2021 within the Investment Bank, GCG is comprised of senior experienced Barclays’ bankers focused on managing and driving some of the most important client relationships, strategic opportunities, and revenue growth across Barclays’ business lines and regions. The GCG is responsible for leading the efforts on some of Barclays’ most important M&A and Equity Capital Markets transactions, and since its inception, has collectively advised on more than a trillion dollars’ worth of M&A deals and hundreds of IPOs.
“Pier Luigi has extensive experience leading the coverage of many of Barclays’ large corporate clients in EMEA, focusing on C-Suite strategic dialogue and origination of large M&A transactions and will be a valuable addition to the Global Chairman Group,” said Mark Zanoli, Co-Head of the GCG. “Throughout the course of his decades-long career, Pier Luigi has built a reputation of being the first call for CEOs across industries for large and complex M&A transactions. He’s also been a role model for our next generation of bankers.”
“With his long history working with clients across the European region, Pier Luigi’s addition to the group reinforces the importance of the European Investment Banking opportunity for Barclays,” Ingrid Hengster, Co-Head of the GCG, said. “The GCG is well positioned to support Barclays’ goals of growing fee share in advisory and M&A, specifically with financial sponsors and corporate clients.”
Colizzi has 30 years of M&A and investment banking experience. He joined Barclays in 2012 as Head of Italy Investment Banking, and was named as the Head of EMEA M&A in 2015 and Head of Investment Banking, Continental Europe, and Co-Head of EMEA M&A in 2021. Prior to joining Barclays, Colizzi spent eight years with Citi, where he was Head of Investment and Corporate Banking for Italy. Colizzi also spent time at Credit Suisse First Boston and three years with BZW and Smith Barney earlier in his career.
