COVID-19 relief in Asia Pacific
In Asia Pacific, we’re working with selected charity partners that are providing critical COVID-19 relief services in the communities where Barclays has a presence. Our donations will support these trusted partners, who are already mobilised on the ground, to provide help to vulnerable people hardest hit by the crisis and to those on the frontline of the response.
Across the region, they are distributing food, providing shelter and emergency support to vulnerable communities and low income families most at risk of hardship including elderly people, disabled people, pregnant women, children, migrant workers and those with limited access to government support.
Akshaya Patra, India
Akshaya Patra, India provide mid-day meals to school children from low-income families to increase attendance at schools and ensure children have access to an education. Barclays’ support will provide vulnerable groups with access to food, organise ready meals at migrant camps and distribute dry groceries and cooked meals across the country.
Bo Charity Foundation, Hong Kong
Bo Charity Foundation, Hong Kong is dedicated to conserving the environment and caring for the underprivileged. Barclays’ support will provide food coupons to vulnerable groups to help them access food. These coupons will primarily be provided to people from underprivileged families who have lost their jobs.
Community Chest of Hong Kong
Community Chest of Hong Kong, Hong Kong raises funds on behalf of their member social welfare agencies. Barclays’ support will enable the organisation to reach even more families from industries that have been adversely impacted by the crisis, providing access to food and basic amenities.
The Food Bank Singapore
The Food Bank Singapore, Singapore collects excess food from food suppliers and redistributes them to organisations such as elderly care homes, family service centres and soup kitchens. Barclays’ support will help with the charity’s work to ensure vulnerable groups, especially people with disabilities, the elderly and migrant workers, do not go without food.
Goonj, India provides disaster relief, humanitarian aid and community development projects across India. Barclays’ funding will support daily wagers, migrants, and other vulnerable groups that have inadequate access to social security services and basic amentities.
Habitat for Humanity, Australia and Hong Kong
Habitat for Humanity is a charity housing organisation working to empower people in the world’s poorest communities to access decent housing. Barclays’ support will help the organisation in Australia and Hong Kong to provide vulnerable communities, including the elderly, indigenous population, women and children, with clean, safe and decent living conditions through house repair and cleaning services.
HealthServe, Singapore seeks to meet the needs of migrant workers in the community through the provision of medical care, counselling, case work, social assistance, and other support services. Barclays’ support will help the organisation to reach migrant workers living in dormitories where physical distancing is a challenge, providing food and medical care of migrant workers with chronic health conditions as well as provision of shelter.
Houkago After School, Japan
Houkago After School, Japan provides after school programmes, offering children a safe and comfortable space at low cost, and helping them to grow into well rounded adults. Barclays’ funding will help the organisation to support medical staff by taking care of their children; supporting the children with counselling, basic care and learning tools.
Magic Bus India Foundation, India
Magic Bus India Foundation, India equips children and young people in India with the skills and knowledge that they need to move out of poverty. Barclays’ support will help the organisation to engage with hard to reach communities, supporting them with access to food, awareness sessions on COVID-19 and helping them recognise symptoms so that they reach out for medical care in time.
Mother’s Choice, Hong Kong
Mother’s Choice, Hong Kong supports the many children without families and pregnant teenagers. Barclays’ support will enable the charity to to help vulnerable youth and their babies with a safe haven for social distancing, access to basic amenities and learning facilities.
Oxfam India, India provides relief and aid to the most vulnerable, including migrant workers, beggars, slum dwellers and rag pickers who have no access to any social security schemes. Barclays’ funding will be used to distribute food and essential hygiene kits to vulnerable families across the country. Oxfam will also run COVID-19 prevention education sessions.
Plan International, India
Plan International, India works to advance children’s rights and equality for girls. Barclays’ funding will support the organisation to provide vulnerable groups in disadvantaged families, including children, pregnant women and adolescent girls, with food and hygiene products, and will support with awareness raising initiatives during the crisis.
Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund)
Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund), India was set up by the Government of India to provide relief to vulnerable communities adversely impacted by COVID-19. Barclays’ support will help the Fund to build community resilience through the provision of shelter, food and hygiene products.
Second Harvest Japan
Second Harvest Japan, Japan distributes food to those in need. Barclays’ support will help the organisation to ensure vulnerable groups impacted by the crisis, especially the elderly and disabled, do not go without food.
Singapore Red Cross, Singapore
Singapore Red Cross, Singapore works to relieve human suffering and protect human lives and dignity while providing emergency response services. Barclays’ funding will help the organisation to provide food and other essential items to vulnerable groups, especially the elderly and disabled people.
