LifeSkills

LifeSkills created with Barclays aims to help all people in the UK to build the key skills, knowledge and confidence to get into, progress in and succeed in work and stay in control of their money.  Whether that’s a young person developing skills and preparing for their first job, to someone wanting to progress in their career, make changes to their working life or even start their own business.

Since 2013, the LifeSkills programme has been supporting youth employment by raising the confidence, motivation and aspirations of millions of young people who are making the move from education into work.  The programme helps them to develop the core, transferable skills that businesses increasingly need.  To date millions of young people have participated in the programme, with almost 9 in 10 students saying they feel more motivated to achieve and three-quarters having higher ambitions and aspirations.

Building on the extensive knowledge and experience gained in running the programme, in 2019 the programme was extended to the whole of the UK workforce and across all ages.  Aligned with current employment trends such as under-employment and an aging workforce and areas where individuals want to change their working lives, such as career progression, introducing more flexibility and wellbeing or starting a business.

We are passionate about helping to give opportunities to those who may need additional support regardless of their background or circumstances and help them to move forward by tackling some of the barriers they face getting into and staying in work.

Whilst delivering the programme at significant scale and impact, we are also uncovering and helping to tackle the deeper issues and challenges that some groups in the UK face.  By developing pioneering, tailored and impactful interventions with our charity partners, we will help build the confidence of young people and adults, tackling issues such as in-work poverty, an ageing workforce and young people in, or at risk, of not being in education, employment or training.
