Kent IT firm celebrates 20 years of success

27 September 2017

An IT firm, which started life in a spare bedroom, has grown to be one of the leading IT support and cloud computing providers in the South East in the space of 20 years.

Akita Systems was founded by business partners Christophe Boudet and Adrian Case. The business initially specialised in building computers for companies until around the time of the millennium bug, when the partners saw an opportunity and diversified into the provision of IT support.

The company flourished and moves followed - initially into a Portakabin, then into bespoke larger offices in Borough Green and a purchased unit in the Chaucer Business Park in Sevenoaks.

Fast forward to 2017 when the company celebrated its 20th anniversary with a move to a much larger building in the newly developed Nepicar Park in Wrotham.

Akita Systems now employs 30 people and supports hundreds of clients from 10 to 200 users covering virtually all industries. The business provides what is effectively an outsourced IT department and has the capacity to store all of a company’s data offsite thereby improving their resilience to cyber attacks and providing increased protection.

Customers are predominantly in Kent and London although Akita also serves global clients and since 2012 has offered 24/7 support to those with more demanding requirements.

Managing Director Christophe Boudet commented, “I and my co-founder Adrian are proud to continue to lead Akita and provide employment opportunities for IT technicians, both young and old. Our two apprentices were not even born when we started out but they have hundreds of years’ combined experience to learn from!”

“The IT industry has changed hugely since we started out, we had already been trading for 10 years when the iPhone was launched, marking the era of the smartphone. We have, however, continued to embrace new opportunities and ensure that our clients benefit from IT and are not hindered by it.”

The company has banked with Barclays from day one and Christophe is positive about the support of their business manager David Tudor. He said: “As we have grown we have experienced the typical challenges most businesses face; ensuring regular cash flow and funding for our continued growth. David and Barclays have been incredibly supportive and have always been on hand to help when needed.”

David Tudor said: “It has been great to see how Christophe and Adrian have developed their business to adapt to the fast moving IT industry. The expertise they have developed in protecting their customers from Cyber Crime has never been more relevant. I am pleased to have helped them achieve their ambitions and I look forward to working with them long into the future.”
