Stonewall Star Performer
Barclays has been named a Star Performer in the Stonewall UK Workplace Equality Index 2017.
The index identified Barclays as one of the best performing employers for creating inclusive workplaces for LGBT employees across our UK operations. Each year, over 400 companies complete the Workplace Equality Index survey, which asks about employers’ workplace LGBT-related benefits, policies and initiatives.
For the 2017 index, Barclays was one of just eight organisations identified as a Star Performer, the highest accolade Stonewall offers.
Being named a Star Performer by Stonewall clearly demonstrates the progress and impact we have made and recognises the broad support we provide our LGBT colleagues.
LGBT Executive Sponsor and Head of Compliance
Michael Roemer, Barclays' Global LGBT+ lead and Head of Compliance, Barclays said: “I could not be more proud of this outstanding accomplishment. Being named a Star Performer by Stonewall clearly demonstrates the progress and impact we have made and recognises the broad support we provide our LGBT colleagues.”
Mark McLane, Barclays’ Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion, added: “This recognition, along with our 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index in the US cements Barclays’ position as one of the leading LGBT-supportive companies operating in the world today."
Barclays has long championed LGBT rights; it established its first Spectrum Network more than 15 years ago to support employees across the organisation. Since then the Network has grown to include chapters in all regions where we operate, and continues to go from strength to strength with its leaders now mentoring multiple companies in the UK who are in the early stages of forming their own LGBT policies, benefits and employee networks.
Barclays was the first bank to feature a same-sex couple in a mainstream television advert and has been the lead sponsor for London Pride for the past three years. Barclays’ support permeates the organisation, with employees helping to drive the agenda, most recently employee-led fundraising raised more than £160,000 for the Terrence Higgins Trust.
Duncan Bradshaw, Director of Membership Programmes, Stonewall said: “Barclays and all those who have made this year’s Top 100 Employers list have done a fantastic job, and really do put equality and inclusion at the forefront of their work. Being recognised as a Star Performer is testament to the hard work and commitment of many at Barclays. With your continued efforts and hard work, we will continue to work toward a world where all lesbian, gay, bi and trans staff are welcomed and accepted without exception in their workplaces.”
