Meet the 2019 Barclays Supplier Awards winners.

The 2019 Supplier Awards took place on 28 June in 1 Churchill Place and were hosted by Al Williams and M.C Cally Beaton.

Cally Beaton is a successful media executive, entrepreneur and performer. She was the youngest and only female member of the UK’s main commercial broadcaster, followed by overseeing a £500million budget at Viacom for channels including Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount and programmes from South Park to Friends. It was working on Comedy central that she developed her other life as a stand-up comedian.

David Wilson from BUK Ventures delivered an interesting key note speech on the innovation agenda followed by the awards event where senior colleagues from across Barclays joined us to provide insight into each of the awards categories and what they mean to the Bank.

Innovation of the Year Award

A supplier led initiative delivered in 2018 that transformed a product or service into one that builds significant strategic advantage for Barclays.

Winner: Onfido 

  • Used cutting-edge artificial intelligence based technology to directly improve the customer experience at scale.
  • Enhanced digital capabilities in the on-boarding space, allowing us to leapfrog competitors in partnership loans and increase our competitiveness in current account on-boarding.
  • Increased controls, determining Fraudulent ID documentation.
  • mproved data quality across KYC.
  • 2 significant programmes implemented with more on the roadmap for 2019.

Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award

A supplier-led initiative delivered in 2018 that has supported the Barclays Shared Growth Ambition by meeting a societal or environmental need in a commercially viable way.

  • Broad range of reductions to their environmental footprint
  • Delivered a bio degradable pen with a cardboard recycled shaft
  • Reduced carbon emissions c. 274 cars off the road in year 1 through efficient managing of stock levels to branches - 80% drop in number of pens ordered
  • Recycled paper across the Barclays group
  • Recycled plastic cash bags

Controls Effectiveness Initiative of the Year Award

A supplier that shows a pro-active commitment to its Control Environment and supporting Barclays to achieve their control obligations and aspirations.

Winner: FeatureSpace

  • Not only have FeatureSpace helped Barclays implement regulatory requirements, they also continue to partner with Barclays on the implementation of Fraud mitigations using innovative machine learning.
  • Key PRA (Prudential Regulatory Authority) milestone achieved.
  • New Machine Learning models being developed to increase our defences against new and emerging fraud previously unable to detect. Expected to strengthen the BPS control agenda by improving fraud detection rates by up to 40%.

Customer Obsession Initiative of the Year Award

A supplier-led initiative that has significantly improved the experience for Barclays’ customers or clients.

Winner: Legal & General

  • L&G have understood a Barclays intent - taken it and run with it to achieve a great outcome that truly benefits our customers.
  • Simplifying a complex underwriting process, reduction in the 35 question, 40-minute application process down to 12 questions taking only 15 minutes.
  • System built to allow future enhancements as customer requirements change.
  • Eligibility criteria changed to cover customers previously not protected – over 70s eligible for cover.

A supplier that exemplifies the Barclays Values and has consistently provided service excellence as well as innovative solutions over a number of years.

  • Pursuit of excellence, innovation and service mindset.
  • Leading edge Secure Customer Authentication Software for Barclays’ SME corporate clients
  • PIN Sentry – Secure Customer Authentication for consumers via the familiar PIN Sentry device.
  • Delivered on Barclays’ BAU requirements for flexi-tags to support our bPay Wearable proposition.
  • Developed a proof-of-concept, flexible, unobtrusive chip that was successfully added to and then tested in high-street costume jewellery.
  • Has given outstanding performance in supporting the company's continuous drive for operating efficiency and delivering greater benefits to our customers
  • Eligibility criteria changed to cover customers previously not protected – over 70s eligible for cover.
